Overview

The task for this illustration was to research and read the United Nations Human Rights Articles and create an advertisement for them. The focus was to create an illustration based on the selected article. My focus was on Article 1, which states,

“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.”

This article stands out in the modern day due to the split and division among us as people, when in reality we are all much more similar than what is presented in the world. It is commonly forgotten that we are all individuals living our own lives with our different struggles and problems. A key focus to be presented was that we are all united together, no matter who we are.

The Thumbnails

For the brainstorming and thumbnails, I did a little research into different types of symbolisms that can be used to give reference to the words unity, freedom, and peace. The two fists are for reference unity, the olive branch is a traditional symbol for peace, and a dove is a symbol of freedom. The typeface came out to be “Acumin Variable Concept; SemiCondensed Bold” since it best matches the text within the United Nations Logo and gives the viewer better readability.

Design Focuses: Olive Branch, Two Fists in rising

Poster Progression

Throughout creating this poster, I wanted to focus on drawing it all by hand since I think that could stand out better. A lot of the feedback I was receiving was focused on the placement of the text along with the required information that was needed regarding the text being legible against the blue background.

feeDback

  • Text placement and color make it difficult to read

  • The right-hand side should be the left-hand side instead of the right-hand side

  • Fix vines to adjust to new hand

Final designs

changes

  • Made it a left and right hand instead of just two right hands

  • Two variations
